Keeping the Show on the Road. [Over] Forty. Female. Fat, 2023. Old Contemporaries.

The stories and experiences of postmenopausal women are often left untold – what happens when the dryness starts?  Taking an uncompromising look at what it looks and feels like.  An autobiographical take on life in 2022.  The drugs taken, the crap purchased and the surgical procedure endured, all in service of  ‘keeping the show on the road’. Sometimes tongue in cheek,  sometimes not, but always with a healthy dose of cynicism to challenge prejudice.  As a nurse shared with me during pre-op, for the reason I was there – ‘I was over forty, fat and female’.  Thanks for that, the odds were stacked against me!
